Summary:

NVIDIA has announced its next-generation Blackwell GPU architecture, designed to usher in a new era of accelerated computing and enable organisations to build and run real-time generative AI on trillion-parameter large language models.

The Blackwell platform promises up to 25 times lower cost and energy consumption compared to its predecessor: the Hopper architecture.

Named after pioneering mathematician and statistician David Harold Blackwell, the new GPU architecture introduces six transformative technologies.

“Generative AI is the defining technology of our time. Blackwell is the engine to power this new industrial revolution,” said Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA.

“Working with the most dynamic companies in the world, we will realise the promise of AI for every industry.”

The key innovations in Blackwell include the world’s most powerful chip with 208 billion transistors, a second-generation Transformer Engine to support double the compute and model sizes, fifth-generation NVLink interconnect for high-speed multi-GPU communication, and advanced engines for reliability, security, and data decompression.

OpenAI’s ambitious plans to develop its own semiconductor chips for powering advanced AI models could receive a boost from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to a report by the Financial Times.

The report states that MGX — a state-backed group in Abu Dhabi — is in discussions to support OpenAI’s venture to build AI chips in-house.

This information comes from two individuals with knowledge of the discussions.

In order to achieve its goal of creating semiconductor chips internally, OpenAI is reportedly seeking investments worth trillions of dollars from investors worldwide.

By manufacturing its own chips, the San Francisco-based company aims to reduce its reliance on Nvidia, the current global leader in semiconductor chip technology.

Anthropic has released Claude 3 Haiku, the fastest and most affordable AI model in its intelligence class.

Boasting state-of-the-art vision capabilities and strong performance on industry benchmarks, Haiku is touted as a versatile solution for a wide range of enterprise applications.

The model is now available alongside Anthropic’s Sonnet and Opus models in the Claude API and on Claude.ai for Claude Pro subscribers.

“Speed is essential for our enterprise users who need to quickly analyse large datasets and generate timely output for tasks like customer support,” an Anthropic spokesperson said.

“Claude 3 Haiku is three times faster than its peers for the vast majority of workloads, processing 21K tokens (~30 pages) per second for prompts under 32K tokens.”

OpenAI has hit back at Elon Musk’s lawsuit, deeming his claims “convoluted — often incoherent — factual premises.”

Musk’s lawsuit accuses OpenAI of breaching its non-profit status and reneging on a founding agreement to keep the organisation non-profit and release its AI technology publicly.

However, OpenAI has refuted these allegations, stating that there is no such agreement with Musk and branding it as a mere “fiction.”

According to court filings, OpenAI asserts that there is no existing agreement with Musk, contradicting his assertions in the lawsuit.

The organisation further alleges that Musk had actually supported the idea of transitioning OpenAI into a for-profit entity under his control.

It is claimed that Musk advocated for full control of the company as CEO, majority equity ownership, and even suggested tethering it to Tesla for financial backing.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is at the forefront of revolutionizing social engineering practices, particularly within the critical sectors of business, medicine, and industry.

This transformation is propelled by AI's high proficiency in data analysis, predictive modeling, and strategic planning, areas traditionally mastered by human intelligence.

In the contemporary landscape, the concept of Social Engineering has significantly evolved, transitioning from its former association with psychological manipulation to a sophisticated strategy empowered by technological advancements.

The integration of AI in social engineering represents a paradigm shift, offering innovative solutions to age-old problems but also introducing complex questions about privacy, equity, and the very fabric of human interaction.

The landscape of global energy systems is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by rapid advancements in technology.

At the forefront of this evolution are the concepts of 'smart grids', 'smart homes', and 'resilient grids'.

A suite of innovative elements including advanced sensor technologies, integration of renewable energy sources, proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and the rise of smart appliances characterizes these modern energy systems.

These technological advancements are collectively reshaping how energy systems operate, making them more adaptive, efficient, and resilient.

A critical aspect of these modernized grids is the extensive use of sensors and big data, coupled with intelligent control systems and distributed decision-making frameworks.

The expanding reliance on biomedical multi-modal data (e.g., medical images, clinical reports, etc.) is a direct consequence of the fundamental role that multi-modal data play in our healthcare.

With the advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), new healthcare technologies are being developed that are enabling clinicians to improve their decision-making for patient care and safety.

However, the challenges are in the effective integration of multi-modal data with AI and the extraction of meaningful knowledge within the data.

Recently, Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT have shown great success in understanding textual data.

Generative AI for Enhanced Predictive Models: From Disease Diagnosis to Diverse Applications

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of machine learning that creates new data resembling the data it was trained on, such as images, text, speech, or music.

This technology can provide innovative ways of analyzing and modelling complex data and generate realistic and diverse scenarios for experiments and applications.

Universal controller could push robotic prostheses, exoskeletons into real-world use

Robotic exoskeletons designed to help humans with walking or physically demanding work have been the stuff of sci-fi lore for decades.
